Let’s Have a Cocktail: The Cranberry Mule

This is one of my favorites, not just because it takes only four ingredients, but because you don’t need to add tons of alcohol (though you’re welcome to of course) and there are lots of ways to gussy it up a bit.

Though you can always uses good ‘ole regular vodka, I love the Deep Eddy line. Their vodkas have great flavor without tasting overdone or artificial. The gorgeous deep red color of the cranberry variety wins me over every time, but the grapefruit sails in at a close second.

One of my favorite additions to the regular four ingredients (cranberry vodka, ginger beer, lime, and simple syrup), is to get fancy with your simple syrup and whip up some homemade cranberry simple syrup. It adds loads of dimension to the cocktail with just a teeny bit of effort. It’s so simple to prepare, just gather these:

  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 cup fresh cranberries

Combine all three ingredients into a small saucepan and heat to boiling. Reduce the heat to a simmer and let cook until sugar has melted and cranberries have burst. Stir occasionally, then remove from the heat and let cool before storing in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Want to gussy some more? Add a splash of cranberry juice to the mix and enjoy. That stuff is tasty! Add if you’re going with a plain unflavored vodka, cranberry juice is a must.

So check it out, pick up a couple of mule mugs at HomeGoods or Target, and get to mixing and sharing with your favorite folks.

Stay well-

Christine
